About The Event
Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest is a hilarious farce taking place in Victorian England. The play’s protagonist is Jack Worthing, a serious, responsible, and studious landowner—that is, as long as he’s in the country. When he goes into the city, Jack ditches his responsibilities and parties freely, going by the pseudonym Ernest in order to protect his reputation. At the same time, Jack blames these frequent trips to London on his fictional brother—who he has also dubbed Ernest.
Things get a little tricky for Jack when his soon-to-be fiancé, Gwendolyn, falls for him as Ernest—a name that “inspires absolute confidence”! They get even trickier when Jack’s nefarious friend, Algernon, visits Jack’s country home to court Jack’s young ward, Cecily Cardew—under the guise of Jack’s imaginary brother, Ernest.
Jam-packed with missed entrances, witty wordplay, and over-the-top characters, The Importance of Being Earnest is a classic play that proves comedy never goes out of fashion!
The play runs April 12th and 13th at 7 pm, and April 14th at 2 pm. Tickets are $12. To purchase, follow the link below.
