ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The Strand Theatre Preservation Society is thrilled to welcome LIVE theater to Moundsville with its production of The Drowsy Chaperone. The show runs July 25 and 26 at 7pm and July 27 at 2pm.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical," The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre.

With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

The cast and crew consist of artists from across the Ohio Valley. The production is directed by Shelby Garrett with musical direction by Justin Jones, choreography by Renee Storm, and technical direction by Meta Lasch.

Cast members include Man In Chair (Isaac Crow), Mrs. Tottendale (Sarah Hamilton), Underling (Peter Lim), Robert Martin (Michael Wylie), George (Ethan Casey), Feldzieg (Zariah Kimball), Kitty (Shanan Stout), Gangster (Shaylee Groves), Aldolpho (Corey Rogers), Janet Van De Graaf (Veda Wheeler), The Drowsy Chaperone (Rose Cunningham), Trix (Samantha Kovacs).

Pre-selected community members will have the chance to appear on stage during the production, and audience members will give donations prior to the show and during intermission to “vote” for their favorite. The person collecting the highest amount of donations will appear on stage during Act 2! All proceeds from the walk-on role will benefit Marshall County Family Resource Network.

Tickets for The Drowsy Chaperone go on sale July 1, at Frame & Fortunes on Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville and online at www.strandtheatrewv.com/events.
